Approximately 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enter the oceans every year, posing serious threats to marine life through ingestion and entanglement. This pollution affects ecosystems, biodiversity, and seafood safety. Additionally, broken down plastics quickly become microplastics that are now pervasive in the environment, contaminating water sources, soil, and even the air. These microplastics can accumulate toxins and enter the food chain, potentially harming human and animal health. The time to act is now and the Plastic Free July movement hopes to be one of many forces working to reduce their reliance on single-use plastic items.
In this spirit, Pushed has enthusiastically joined the global movement, harnessing their animation expertise to raise awareness for this urgent cause. The resulting animation employs captivating visuals reminiscent of vintage comic strips, infused with dynamic action and movement. In the short clip, the plastic bottles are portrayed as the quintessential antagonists of cartoons and comics, symbolising a formidable foe in need of defeat. Positioned as the opposing side is a reusable bottle adorned with a sea turtle emblem, depicted as the hero striving to combat plastic waste and safeguard ocean life. Through animation, this impactful message is conveyed succinctly in the engaging twenty-two seconds, relying on emotive graphics rather than dialogue or lengthy explanations.
